Dolphin Spotted Madeira Island Tours On Tales

Unlike Odontoceti whales, where twins are extremely rare, dolphins show some notable exceptions. The common dolphin and the striped dolphin can have up to 3 simultaneous offspring, which is unusual among cetaceans. The remaining five species always produce a single calf per gestation. This difference reflects distinct reproductive strategies: species with more offspring tend to have shorter reproductive cycles and lower individual investment per calf.
