Mysticeti: Diving Capacity — Maximum Duration (minutes)
In Mysticeti, maximum dive duration is considerably shorter than in high-capacity Odontoceti. The humpback whale leads at 40 minutes, followed by the blue whale and fin whale at 30 minutes each. Four species — the minke whale, North Atlantic right whale, sei whale, and Bryde’s whale — share the same maximum of 20 minutes. These values reflect the surface and moderate-depth feeding that characterises these great baleen whales.
